Tough Chic

Ok so I am not really a tough chic, but check out the skulls on my scarf! I guess skulls on my scarf are as about as tough as I get. Had a great Valentine's night last night, we ordered Thai food and got caught up on two episodes of Grey's Anatomy. Anyone else think that show is getting a little too far fetched now? I mean if all those things happened to me working at a hospital I'm pretty sure I would have left a long time ago. Anyway, it's Friday....Enjoy your week-ends.

Hot Water Bottle = Love

So I have mixed feelings about Valentine's Day. On one hand I am a true romantic and love, love. I mean I had a Valentine's Day party, I decorated my house, I love anything with a heart on it......you get the idea. On the other hand, I hate being told what day to tell someone how you feel about them. I hate the commercialization of any holiday. I want to be given flowers on a random day during the week just because.... When my husband makes me a hot water bottle and puts it in the bed when I am out so that when I get home my side of the bed is warm, that's the most romantic thing you could do for me. Having said all that, I couldn't let today go by without showing a little love.....

Tank Top Trick

Does everyone know the tank top trick? If your going to wear a button up shirt under a sweater and don't want all the pocket and button lines to show through, then after you put on your shirt, wear a tank top over it and then put on your sweater. The tighter the tank the better, it will smooth out all the lines and will look much cleaner. Plus I am never going to complain about an extra layer of warmth!

Puerto Rico

No I am not going to Puerto Rico.....just remembering it. It wasn't one of my favourite places that I have been, but I did have a lot of fun on my trip with some great friends. Why the memories? Well for one I miss the heat and sand and the water,  and when I was looking for a necklace to wear I remembered this one that I bought at a little boutique in Puerto Rico. Somehow it brought a little bit of warmth to an otherwise cold day.

Army Grey

Can't believe it is Monday again. The week-ends sure do fly by. Well I finally got out of my PJ's and my candy induced coma and I am ready to face the world again. This jacket is one of my favourites. It is great in the winter to wear as a cardigan and then perfect as a little jacket in the spring. I also love this colour it is a mix between army green and grey. In fact I think it should be re-named "Army Grey".

5am Bedtime

Off to a pretty slow start today. Went to bed at 5am after our Valentine's Day party last night. When we woke up my husband and I talked about how lucky we are to have such amazing friends. Some we have known for years and years and some are new friendships either way we are blessed to know them all. What a great time Valentine's Day is to share the love not just with your partners but with all the great people you have in your life. Had a great time and as a result it is definitely going to be a PJ day today, luckily it is Sunday.......quote day.

Party Prep....

Not much time today, having our Valentine's Party tonight so I am frantically cleaning and preparing  all day. No idea what I am going to wear yet so couldn't post my outfit.  I was however, cleaning out some clothes earlier in the week and was trying to decide wether or not to keep this blazer. I thought I had already gotten rid of it so was surprised to still see it in my closet. I love that it is striped and the pink detail is great but it is a little too big (hence the belt).
Well I am off to mop the floors. Best part of having people over is it forces you to actually clean the entire house! Wish me luck.

Snow Day

Today is a snow day! It has been snowing all through the night, schools are closed and there is hardly anyone on the roads. This morning I shared a tradition with my son that I used to do growing up. We put a bowl outside while it was snowing and collected fresh snow, as soon as it was full we brought it in and poured maple syrup into the bowl. Delicious and fun. My son asked if he could take the bottle of syrup outside and pour it into the snow....uh No.
Comfy today in my long cardigan and La Femme tee.

Life's Lesson's

Yesterday I was carrying my 13 year old 40 pound dog up the stairs and decided to not only carry him but grab the knapsack that was sitting on the stairs at the same time. Whatever movement I made twisted my back and I was rendered helpless for 15 minutes with my dog half on one stair half on another looking at me like what kind of game is this? It is amazing how you take things for granted until you no longer have them. I was unable to do anything all day. It reminded me that we take all kinds of things for granted all the time. So to make myself feel better I decided this was just a way to get me to slow down and pay attention to life's lesson's.

On another note, my constant challenge of not shopping but rather wearing all of the clothes I already have, led me to this brown shrug. Found it way in the back of my closet and hate to admit it but it still had the price tag on it.

Dryer Mishap

I would say that 99.9% of the time I do my own laundry. Every piece of clothing seems to have it's own manual. Some need to be washed in cold water, some hand washed, some go in the dryer for the full amount of time, some go in only for a few minutes so I can avoid ironing and some never go in the dryer at all. Knowing the way to handle each piece of clothing is almost an art form, so for this reason I don't trust anyone (my husband) to do my laundry. The one and probably only time my husband (trying to be very helpful) decided to throw all my laundry into the dryer it included this blouse. Silk blouse.....it shrunk, luckily I can still wear it. It just barely tucks into my pants but miraculously only shrunk in length.

Blue & Cream

Keeping it really simple today. My extremely old sweater, (can't bring myself to part with it) my blue skinny jeans and warm wedge booties.

Superbowl

Anyone that knows me knows that I am not a "Sporty" girl. I did play soccer growing up but it ended once I hit my teenage years and would much rather be at the shopping mall with my friends than sweating somewhere on a field. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of being on a team and participating but somehow I never managed to find my perfect sport. When I got married I inherited my husbands favourite football team "The Cowboys". I love going to the games (mostly for the company of good friends, the atmosphere and the travel). I still am not quite sure how the game of football works.
Yesterday we were invited to a friends house for the Superbowl. I decided to wear my "Sporty" look. My husband informed me on our way out "You do know that the Cowboys are not playing right" Of course I knew they weren't playing (not sure who was but knew they weren't). This is my Sporty look I told him. He approved.
We had a great time, the women and children amused themselves and the men watched the game.
Check out my new bracelet with my initial (made by my 8 year old friend Ella)!

Sunday....Quote Day.

Spent a great day yesterday shopping with a friend. I have been really good lately with trying not to buy new things, of course I saw a million things I wanted but I managed to buy only a few accessories and that was it. I started writing down how much I spend on clothes (purses, jewellery etc...) each month and while January was not a good start, 3 days into February and I think it is going to be a much better month.
Love this quote, it is so important for young girls to stand strong against societies views of what they should look like and learn to love themselves as they are. Having 4 nieces all under the age of 13 I am hoping things don't get worse before they get better.

Gold Flecked Cardigan

This cardigan was one of the purchases I made when I was down south after Christmas. It was in the clearance rack at Banana Republic for a mere $13.50. I had no idea how I would wear it, but for that price it was coming home with me. This is my first attempt. I think it would look great over a dress for a more formal look as well. Nothing better than a cardigan!
